Killonbutta State Forest is a stretch of forest 1 hour north of Canowindra, NSW.

Killonbutta State Forest is home to the Killonbutta Loop Trail, a challenging loop for the experienced hiker.

Stop in the forest for a picnic, a spot of birdwatching, or just enjoy the scenery to break up the walk.

Let’s Walk Killonbutta State Forest

Killonbutta Loop Track

10.5km, 2.5 – 3hrs loop

The Killonbutta Loop Track is a challenging 10.5km loop near Gumble, or 1hr drive north of Canowindra.

This hike will take about 2.5 – 3hrs. You can make a day trip of this hike and stop along the trail for a picnic and a rest, bring your picnic basket and blanket or chairs, and as always, plenty of water.

This trail is great for hiking, running, biking, and walking.

You wont find many other people along this track so you’ll enjoy the peace and tranquillity if you choose to take your time and take in the sights and sounds of the forest.

Flora and Fauna

Killonbutta State Forest is home to a number of native Australian flora and fauna including birdlife and small mammals and reptiles.

Watch out for native flowers in spring including the Cootamundra Wattle, Grevilleas, Silver Wattles, Twining Fringe Lilies, and trees including the River Red Gum.

Killonbutta State Forest is located on Nora Creek Road, off Banjo Paterson Way. It is a 1hour drive north of Canowindra, and just west of Molong.
