Welcome to Mullion Range
Mullion Range is a state conservation area located just north of Orange.
Mullion Range is home to the Historic Water Race Walking Track, the Fourth Crossing Picnic Area, and The Falls Waterfalls.
You might also want to try one of the other tracks including The Summer Creek Falls Lookout Track, the Central Mines Trail, the Western Boundary Trail, or Mullion Water Race Loop.

Let’s Walk Mullion Range
Historic Water race Walking Track
2.6km loop, 1 hour – 1 hr 30mins.
The Historic Water Race Walking Track is a Grade 4 track, along the way you can take time out to birdwatch or go swimming or fishing at Summer Hill Creek.
The track is also rich in gold mining history.
The Historic Water Race walking track is an important part of Australia’s early gold mining history. Gold miners made the track by hand in the 1860s. You can still see how water was captured and directed from Summer Hill Creek to the mining areas.
While you’re there, take some time to cool off with a swim, or go fishing in the waterhole at the bottom of nearby The Falls Water Falls.
Summer Hill Creek also offers some spectacular scenic views. Because he track begins at the Fourth Crossing picnic area, stop and enjoy a picnic or do a spot of birdwatching.
Grade 4
Mullion Water Race Loop
4.8km, 1.5 hours loop walk
The Mullion Water Race Loop is a 4.8-km loop trail near Mullion Creek.
The loop is Generally considered an easy route and can be enjoyed by the family or solo.
The loop offers a chance at birdwatching and time to enjoy the views of lush grasslands, trees and rushing water.
This trail is great for hiking and walking, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring.
Grade 3
Central Mines Trail
6.1km, 1hr 30mins – 2 hrs.
The Central Mines trail is a challenging 6.1km trail near Summer Hill Creek. The route takes an average of 1 h 44 min to complete.
This trail is great for hiking, mountain biking, and walking. That said, do stop and take some time to enjoy the scenery, bird watch, or even stop for a picnic to break the hike up.
This track is somewhat out of the way so it is unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring. It is still very well worth the visit or the alone time to stretch your legs.
The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.
Grade 4
Western Boundary Trail
4.8km, 1.5 hours walk
The Western Boundary Trail is a 4.8-km near Mullion Creek, it is an easy walk that takes about 1.5 hours to complete.
As the name suggests, The Western Boundary Trail takes you along the Western Boundary of the Mullion Range.
Take some time to sight see, stop for a picnic and rest, or do a spot of birdwatching, this walk offers peace and tranquillity.
This trail is great for hiking, mountain biking, and running, and it’s unlikely you’ll encounter many other people while exploring.

Summer Creek Falls Lookout Trail
1.5km, 30 – 45mins.
The Summer Creek Falls Lookout trail is a short and easy walk with a rewarding view.
The trail is only 1.5km and is on Ophir Road, the lower portion of the Mullion Range.
This trail is great for hiking and walking, and with the lookout nearby you can stop and enjoy the views, the waterfalls, the flora and fauna, and enjoy a peaceful afternoon.

About Mullion Range
The Falls Waterfalls and Fourth Crossing Picnic Area
The Falls Water Falls is located near Summer Hill Creek and is the ideal place for, bushwalking, picnicking and birdwatching.
Take the Central Mines trail to The Falls Water Falls at Summer Hill Creek to enjoy scenic views of the rushing water along the creeks two levels. The falls are are especially breathtaking when water levels in the creek are high following heavy rainfall. At the bottom of this waterfall, there is a swimming hole best enjoyed in the summer heat.
The Mullion Range has a rich history dating back to the gold mining era, with the old water race that once fed water through to mining areas. The waterfalls also allow for off-bank fishing, remember your fishing license! Fourth Crossing picnic area next to Summer Hill Creek, near Orange, is a great spot for exploring, going swimming or trout fishing.
Birdwatchers should bring their binoculars and be on the lookout for woodland birds such as eastern and crimson rosellas, and owls.
Pack a picnic and visit the nearby Fourth Crossing picnic area or take a walk along Historic Water Race walking track.
